- The Government Set Four Key Activity Priorities for the Current Year
- 2010/02/18
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the corrected Government Activity Priorities for 2010. Hence, the activities of the 15th Government will be guided by the following priorities:
• Job creation, reduction in unemployment levels and economic promotion;
• Upgrading of public administration and fight against corruption;
• Structural reforms in the areas of social care, education and energy;
• Build-up of public society for the creation of the vision ‘Lithuania – 2020’.
“Last year our crucial priority was to maintain financial stability. This year we are pooling efforts to address such topical issues as reduction in unemployment rate and job creation. Even with the start of economic growth unemployment still stays at the same levels for some time; to this end, job creation will be the main focus of attention of our Government”, Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius said referring to the key priority of the Government.
On the face of it, the Government also established main activities for the implementation of the above priorities by placing a special emphasis on:
• Job creation, reduction in unemployment rate and economic promotion;
• Upgrading of public administration and fight against corruption;
• Further consolidation of public finances and efficient use of resources by introducing a result-oriented management model;
• County reform;
• Structural reform of social sector;
• Health care reform;
• Structural reforms in education;
• Energy and transport;
• Development of public digital services.
The Government points out that during the unprecedented period of economic recession, solidarity and social sobriety are to remain major values. The Government priorities were set with a view to implementing the National Agreement, which had been reached with the social partners and set out principles for rebuilding the country’s economy. The Government is convinced that the provisions of the National Agreement, once implemented, are to ensure long-term prospects for economic growth.
The Government decision also stresses that a number of other specific steps are to be made in 2010, and that each member of the Cabinet is responsible for implementation of the Government Programme within their specific remits.
The ministries have been assigned to provide quarterly reports on the progress done regarding implementation of the Government priorities 2010.
