Lithuanian Prime Minister and European Commission’s project coordinator Pavel Telička : Rail Baltica is to continue
2010/02/23

Earlier today, Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius met with Pavel Telička, European Coordinator for the Rail Baltica project which aims to develop transport infrastructure accessible to and managed by all parties involved, and link the Baltic countries with the rest of the EU via Poland.

Prime Minister Kubilius reiterated the strategic importance of the project, and pointed out that there were no doubts whatsoever that Government’s decision taken last December regarding the first phase of the Rail Baltica project in Lithuania – the reconstruction of railway track from the Lithuanian-Polish state border to the Logistics Centre in Kaunas – is to be put into effect within the current EU Financial Perspective, i.e. by 2013.

Among other items discussed was project co-funding, the details of which should transpire in the coming months. In any case, according to Telička, from one source or other, funding is going to be provided.

Pavel Telička dispelled doubts and expressed the position of both the top-level EU officials and himself to consistently and resolutely proceed with the implementation of the project.
