- Seimas agreed to the renewed National Strategy of Energy Independence

Today Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania has agreed to the renewed National Strategy of Energy Independence, thereby setting key objectives for the Lithuanian energy sector for the period leading up to 2020 and outlining the vision of the energy sector up until 2050.
The major objective of the strategy is to ensure energy independence for Lithuania by 2020. The strategy states, that Lithuanian Energy sector has to be integrated into EU Energy system.
"This strategy is well balanced and gives sense to substantial works in the energy field that has been performed by the Government. Strategy will ensure the continuity of main strategic projects and provide more confidence to strategic and regional partners. And confidence is vital for project implementation as it is also vital while transforming energy sector in accordance with the European Union competitive energy market principles" - said Minister of Energy Arvydas Sekmokas.
The Government will now prepare five-year strategy implementation plan.
