State Progress Council encourages citizen to participate in building vision

- For the purpose of implementing one of the four operational priorities 2010, the Government has invited different experts, academic representatives, business pundits, analysts of political and economic developments to join the State Progress Council which is to mobilize the community in mapping Lithuania’s route into the near future and building its vision “Lithuania 2030”. The decision to set up the Progress Council was endorsed by the Cabinet meeting earlier today.
"This year we are marking the 20-th anniversary of March 11, which provides a great opportunity to bring people together to reflect on how Lithuania should look in another 20 years. I very much hope that the Progress Council will encourage the people to join in an energetic creative collaboration. If we want to be a good country for all to live, we all have to help create its future", – said Prime Minister Kubilius.

- The Cabinet of Ministers approved the corrected Government Activity Priorities for 2010. Hence, the activities of the 15th Government will be guided by the following priorities:
• Job creation, reduction in unemployment levels and economic promotion;
• Upgrading of public administration and fight against corruption;
• Structural reforms in the areas of social care, education and energy;
• Build-up of public society for the creation of the vision ‘Lithuania – 2020’.
- Prime Minister Kubilius: European Council lends a helping hand to Greece

- On Thursday Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius took part in the informal session of the European Council in Brussels. For the first time the session was chaired by the President elect of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy.
The European Council agenda was slightly disturbed by heavy snow. Having been delayed for almost four hours, the session first discussed the EU support for Greece, which led to the EU leaders offering support to the debt ridden Greece. The decision was made to overthrow growing concerns about the possible spread of economic crisis hence affecting other members of the eurozone.

- The Lithuanian Government’s measures aimed at cutting the budget deficit were necessary and yielded positive results, said the United States economy and finances chiefs during their meetings with Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius in Washington.
On Thursday the Prime Minister met with Chairman of the United States Federal Reserve Ben Bernanke at the headquarters of the Federal Reserve (FED). Later on, the Prime Minister met with Director of the White House’s National Economic Council Lawrence Summers, an influential adviser to President Barack Obama. Afterwards, Kubilius met with US Secretary of the Treasury Timothy F. Geithner. Minister of Finance Ingrida Šimonytė and the Prime Minister’s delegation also attended the meetings.

Lithuanian Prime Minister opened the NASDAQ Stock Market morning trading session
in New York - 2010/02/03
- On Wednesday, continuing his visit in the United States, Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius opened the NASDAQ Stock Market morning trading session in New York. Prime Minister Kubilius delivered a short address during the morning bell-ringing ceremony, which had been hosted by a number of famous people from around the world; the Prime Minister noted that a branch of the NASDAQ OMX Group has been operating in Lithuania as Vilnius Stock Exchange.
