the economic stimulus plan is working
2010/07/28
Data released by the Lithuanian Department of Statistics earlier today has confirmed that GDP Q2 growth was 1.1 per cent up against the same period last year, and 6.6 per cent up against the Q1 this year.
"I am pleased with the results of the ongoing economic recovery, proving that we are on the right track, and that the Lithuanian economy is climbing out of the recession, and, finally, that our economic stimulus plan is working. It will certainly require our further steadfast efforts and time to tame current unemployment and budget deficit. Prime Minister: Construction of Terminal Increases
Energy Independence and Reduces Gas Prices
2010/07/21
At the sitting on Wednesday, the Government adopted a decision to construct a liquid natural gas (LNG) terminal in Klaipėda. The public company “Klaipėdos nafta” was chosen as the main terminal building tool. The proposed capacity for the LNG terminal would be 3 billion cubic metres a year.

“This decision is very important, however, it is not the only step in realizing the Government\`s strategy to seek full energy independence”, Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius pointed out. He noted that the construction of the terminal was directly related to the implementation of the European Union directive known as third energy package in Lithuania, announced by the Government in May.

This is the first step, in obtaining a map over this portfolio so that we will be able to take serious steps towards a more professional management of these commercial assets.
The Prime Minister of Lithuania Andrius Kubilius said:
This is the start of structural reforms that will stimulate growth, increase competiveness and reduce the budget deficit.
Energy independence strategy at the focus of the meeting between the Lithuanian and Estonian Prime Ministers
2010/07/12
A friendly conversation between Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius and his Estonian counterpart Andrus Ansip during the official meeting at the Office of the Prime Minister has basically focussed on the latest economic developments in the Baltic states, crisis resolution scenarios and particularly energy independence strategy.

Andrus Ansip has thanked the Prime Minister of Lithuania for his greetings to Estonia on the occasion of the introduction of the euro, noting however that the fact that all three Baltic states have similar economic policies and deal with similar challenges, is more important than the mere introduction of the euro. \"Our countries, i.e. Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, were in a similar situation, and their response to the emerging challenges was very similar too. As a matter of fact, there was no time for long preparations, so our countries acted upon it immediately. What helped us immensely was the spirit of cooperation, and many of our actions were coordinated in between us.”– said the Estonian Prime Minister.
