- Israeli Foreign Minister: Good Bilateral Relations to Be Translated
into Good Economic Relations - 2010/07/08
Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius met with Israeli Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman. The meeting focused on bilateral and multilateral relations, prospects for economic and commercial cooperation, cultural and educational issues, and, last but not least, relationship with the Jewish community.
As Israeli Foreign Minister A. Liberman noted, the current intensively developing bilateral relations between Lithuania and Israel are excellent. “It is high time we translated our excellent bilateral relations into excellent economic and trade relations”, the Minister said.
Prime Minister A. Kubilius was lavish in his praise for the innovative Israeli economy. “Lithuania admires Israel’s achievements in the IT sector. Our Minister of Economy D. Kairys, recently back from Israel, had every opportunity to see the latest developments in that area personally. At the present moment in time, Lithuania is keenly looking for IT investments all over the world; to my mind, Israeli business should find our market attractive as well”, A. Kubilius observed.
The Minister thanked Lithuania for its balanced approach to the Middle East and Israel and extended the official invitation of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to visit the country in the near future. While discussing restitution issues, both parties were unanimous in their conviction that the compensation procedure for Jewish property would run smoothly and successfully.
