A farewell gift of the Belgian Ambassador to the Prime Minister – Lithuanian haiku

Today, Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius accepted Christian Verdonck, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium, whose term of office in Lithuania is approaching its end. Discussions of the meeting featured events, important to Lithuania, Belgium and the entire Europe, which took place during the term of office of the Ambassador, cooperation of both countries, and opinions on relevant topics.

During his term of office in Lithuania, Christian Verdonck was very interested in Lithuanian culture, he also discovered and fell in love with the Lithuanian language. The Ambassador gave as a gift to Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius a book of poems, which he wrote in Lithuanian. The book contains 33 poems written in haiku.

Christian Verdonck worked in Africa, Asia, and Europe. Lithuania is his last placement; following his return to Belgium, the Ambassador is going to end his active diplomat’s career.

A new Belgian Ambassador is coming to Lithuania next week.
