Arūnas Gelūnas (Minister of Culture)

Born in 1968 in Kaunas.
1975–1986 studied at the Kaunas J. Jablonskis Secondary School.
1988–1994 studied Graphic Arts at the Vilnius Academy of Art
He also took a postgraduate course at the Vytautas Magnus University, completing it with a PhD degree.
1995–1997 studied at the Tokyo University of the Arts.
For many years, Arūnas Gelūnas worked as a lecturer at the Vilnius Academy of Art.
Since 2004, he served as a Vice Rector at the Vilnius Academy of Art before his appointment as Minister of Culture.
Since 2008, he has served as Chairman of the Board of the Association of National Creative and Cultural Industries. Arūnas Gelūnas is a member of the Lithuanian Artists Union.
The Minister of Culture speaks six languages: Lithuanian, Russian, English, French, Polish and Japanese.

On 2 July, Arūnas Gelūnas was appointed Minister of Culture by the Decree of President of the Republic of Lithuania in pursuance with Article 84(9) of the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania and in consideration of the nomination by Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius.
