- Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius embarks on his annual holidays on Sunday, July 25. As usual, the Prime Minister has opted for outdoor recreation: accompanied by his colleagues, he will be cycling along the historic roads of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

- Four Lithuanian students won scholarships to study in the US

- Four Lithuanian secondary school students were awarded scholarships to study in the United States yesterday by U.S. Ambassador Anne E. Derse. Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius was on hand to congratulate them as well. The students--two from Vilnius, one from Kaunas, and one from Šiauliai--were chosen on the basis of academic merit and English fluency from among 12 finalists, out of 130 who applied for the U.S. Embassy’s new ExCEL scholarship program (ExCEL stands for Exchanges for Culture, Education, and Leadership).
The four students are Gabrielė Uršulė Bartosevičiūtė of the Vilniaus J. Basanavičiaus vidurinė mokyla, Eleonora Lekavičiūtė of the Kauno jėzuitų gimnazija, Gabrielė Papievytė of the Vilniaus jėzuitų gimnazija, and Andrius Sakalauskas of the Didždvaris gimnazija in Šiauliai. They will spend the full 2010-2011 academic year living with host families in the United States while attending their tenth year of secondary school.

Prime Minister: Construction of Terminal Increases
Energy Independence and Reduces Gas Prices - 2010/07/21
- At the sitting on Wednesday, the Government adopted a decision to construct a liquid natural gas (LNG) terminal in Klaipėda. The public company “Klaipėdos nafta” was chosen as the main terminal building tool. The proposed capacity for the LNG terminal would be 3 billion cubic metres a year.
“This decision is very important, however, it is not the only step in realizing the Government\`s strategy to seek full energy independence”, Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius pointed out. He noted that the construction of the terminal was directly related to the implementation of the European Union directive known as third energy package in Lithuania, announced by the Government in May.
- Prime Minister: Lithuanian science has laid foundations for a record private deal

- Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius expressed his delight at the conclusion of the largest business deal over the twenty years of the independence, pointing out that the Lithuanian education and the consistent government policy to attract foreign investment were largely to be credited for this achievement, as he met David Eansor Norman, Head of the Biosciences Unit of the Thermo Fisher Scientific. The company recently finalized the deal signed in June about the acquisition of the Lithuanian biotechnology company Fermentas International.

- The Lithuanian Government and ultimately the taxpayers of Lithuania, is the largest owner of commercial assets in the country. Each taxpayer in this country has a share in this portfolio worth around LIT 16.000 per person. Together we are now turning the page on the management of this common asset by publishing this Annual Review. This is the first step, in obtaining a map over this portfolio so that we will be able to take serious steps towards a more professional management of these commercial assets.
