- Prime Minister Kubilius met with President of the European Parliament Buzek

- Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius had a working breakfast with President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek today. During a warm and open conversation, issues related to Lithuania, the Baltic Sea Region, and the European Union were discussed, with special emphasis on the European solidarity.
The new President of the European Parliament Buzek pointed out that he had chosen Lithuania among the first countries to visit in his new capacity in order to express the European solidarity with the new EU member states, and especially the Baltic States, which had felt the biggest impact of the global economic and financial crisis.

- Today Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius met Elena Flores, Head of the Directorate for the Economies of the Member States of the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs of the European Commission, paying a visit in Lithuania. At present the official of the European Commission is visiting the Baltic States with the aim of collecting information on the achievements of the countries to overcome the outcome of the biggest global economic crisis after the World War II.

- Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius has taken part in the panel discussions “Lithuania’s Presidency over Community of Democracies: Challenges and Prospects”, hosted by the Seimas on the occasion of the International Day of Democracy. In his speech, the Prime Minister described challenges emerging for the democracy in 21st century and touched upon Lithuania’s assistance to new democracies.

- Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius has met with Prime Minister of Finland Matti Vanhanen in his residence. The two Premiers have openly discussed strategies for overcoming the economic downturn. The Prime Ministers have agreed that not only each country must have its own national strategy, but a coordinated EU strategy and more intense bilateral cooperation policy are required as well.
